Happy New Year!!
Can you believe it? It is almost 2010, what a crazy concept! So with the start of a new year we have resolutions. One of the biggest is "lose weight and get in shape", how can I get started? So many times our good intentions are hard to implement when we don't have the knowledge we need to get a program started affectively. Let one of our personal trainers help you get started on the road to success. You can do individual sessions or 3 paks, 6 paks, or 12 paks, stop by the fitness desk and see who would be available to fit your schedule to get you jump started on your "new" fitness program.

Living on the Edge
Did you know? Before people develop type 2 diabetes, they almost always have "pre-diabetes" blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Recent research has shown that some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre-diabetes. The good news is that studies show that people with pre-diabetes can prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. Through a grant from the State of Montana, the KRMC Diabetes Education and Prevention program offers a 16 week Diabetes Prevention Course open to anyone at risk for diabetes. Located at the Summit, this course includes instruction on nutritional choices as well as individualized exercise instruction.
Two class offerings are available: Mondays(beginning January 25) from 4:30-6:30pm or Tuesdays (beginning January 26) from 11:30-1:30pm. Cost of the class is a depost of $50; however, the cost is fully refundable upon completion of the course requirements. Scholarships are avaliable for those who cannot afford the class cost. For more information, or to register call 751-5454

As I stand here this Christmas Eve morning, I'm reflecting over the past year. I can't believe the year is coming to a close, time truly does fly when you're having fun. This is a time amidst all the hustle and bustle to take a moment and count your blessings. Allow me to share with you, I have a wonderful husband whom I just celebrated our 30th Anniversary with, two beautiful daughters and the most special little grandson in the world who loves his Grandma "so much". I also count in my blessings my Summit "family". Not only those I work with but all "my" special members I get to see and spend time with, I've gotten so close with so many of you I feel you are part of my family. Computer Issues, I'm Back
Have you missed me? I hope so 'cuz it's been awhile. A few computer issues that left us with 2 computers to do 50 million things. Yikes! Anyway, we have a new computer I have been re-introduced and only lost a few things. Onward and upward! Did you realize that Christmas is next week? How did that happen? Are you ready, is your shopping done? What a hectic time of year. It is real easy to get caught up in the chaos so we need to step back, take a breath, relax and try to enjoy the Season. Oh ya, don't forget to come work out at the Summit, it's a great stress reducer.

Veterans Day
I'd like to take a moment to say "thank you" to all our Veterans on this Veterans Day. Too many days of the year go by without acknowledging the people that have made this great country what it is today. People that put their lives on the line, those that made the ultimate sacrifice, and those that are still out there today fighting for our freedom and the rights and privileges that we have. I am an American, I am proud to be an American and I still think this nation is the greatest in the world, despite some of the issues that are going on now. Sooo, without getting up on a soap box, which I could real easy, I simply and sincerely from the bottom of my heart want to say thank you to all the Veterans. Happy Veterans Day!

Probiotic Revolution
Continuing on with our Fall Lecture Series, we have another great one coming up this Wednesday November 11th. It is being held from 12:00 to 1:00 in our conference rooms. The topic of discussion is the "Probiotic Revolution" presented by Elizabeth Alama, pharmacist. I have had a lot of people asking me, "what is probiotics?" and to be honest with you I really didn't know. I decided I needed to know at least a little of what I was talking about so I Googled it. Wow! I got more info than I could process, at least at 5:30 in the morning. Fortunately one of the nurses from the hospital came by so I asked her about it. Reader Digest version is as follows-it has to do with the microorganisms that naturally live in our large intestine and gut. We need to have a proper balance and so much of the foods that we eat, medications we take all contribute to getting us out of balance. So, you need to come to this lecture and find out what we can do to get our bodies back in balance, to help our immune systems and improve our general health.

Just so you know! School District 5 has an early out on Thursday Nov 5 so we will be offering an extra open swim time. The kids can come in from 2:00 until 4:00 swim and have fun! So when you call or try and bring kids in during "non-open" swim time and we tell you "no" we really aren't being mean we are just following the rules. BUT come in on Thursday and have a great time, see ya then!!

Happy Halloween
Every one has a kid inside them that loves Halloween! It's fun to dress up, be silly, eat too much, be scary and generally make the day a fun festive occassion. But, where did Halloween get it's start? Halloween has it's origins in the ancient festival called Samhain which is derived from Old Irish and roughly translates to "summers end". Samhain celebrates the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half" and is sometimes referred to as the "Celtic New Year". Whatever Halloween means to you, celebrate, enjoy, be thankful for friends and family and please be safe. From me to you, Happy Halloween!!

Parisi Speed School
Bill Parisi was becoming increasingly frustrated with the training methods utilized by American Athletes. So he made it his mission to do something about it. In 1992, he decided to launch a company focused on providing world class performance training for athletes of all ages and performance levels. With the best in class training programs, a motivational speech and a $500 van Bill, hit the roads in his home state of New Jersey searching for teams and individuals that desired to increase Athletic Performance and Confidence Levels.

Are You Getting Enough Sleep?
Did you Know? Studies have shown that the lack of sleep and the susceptibilty to colds go hand in hand. With cold and flu season pretty much on top of us, getting enough rest is so important. In a recent study from the Archives of Internal Medicine, 153 men and women were exposed to cold viruses and their sleep patterns were tracked. In a 2 week period of time those that got 5 hours of sleep or less were 3 times more likely to get sick than those that got 8 hours of sleep on an average. So it seems that sleep and immunity are linked, other studies show that mammals that require the most sleep also produce higher levels of disease fighting white blood cells. With all this being said, take those vitamins, drink your herbal teas but do try and get lots of rest as well.

What is Zumba?
I have been getting a lot of questions lately about our Zumba class. What is it? I did a little research and this is what I found. Zumba was invented in the mid 1990's by celebrity fitness instructor "Beto" Perez. One day he went to teach his aerobics class and had forgotten his music. He improvised with music he had in his car, some of his favorites, traditional Latin Salsa and Merengue. It was so well received, ta da, Zumba was born. Zumba fuses latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away! The routine combines fast and slow rhythms with resistance training to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Currently we have a 4:15 pm Zumba class on Tuesdays, we will soon be adding a 9:00am class as well. I will keep you posted as to when it will be starting and what day. Hope that answers some questions.

Frost On the Pumpkin
Brrr! It was a cold one this morning, very appropriate for the first day of Autumn, I guess. I did however, check to see when the Autumnal Equinox actually occurs. In the Northern Hemisphere the equinox will occur at 5:18pm central time on September 22. So I say let's celebrate the Harvest, enjoy this beautiful Fall weather we have been given, take the time to reflect on the past seasons and prepare for the upcoming changes. It's time to start thinking of Winter projects and activities, what new things can we do this year? I have a couple of things I want to try this winter, let me share these with you. I plan on giving weaving a try as well as snowshoeing, I know, kind of two different ends of the spectrum but what the heck. If anybody has something new or different that they would like to share with me, please blog me.
