Keep Your Valuables Secure

Just a reminder to please leave your valuables at home or locked in your vehicle. Anything that you bring in the facility put them in a locker and lock it. We have locker cards available at the front desk if you need one. While I like to think that everyone is honest and trustworthy the reality is sometimes quite different. Please be smart and take care to secure all your personal belongings.

Back to School Blues

Well, it's that time of year again, the most wonderful time of the year, back to school. Yeah!! Teachers are hesitant, hopeful and optimistic, the students are scared and excited, and the parents are thrilled. Let's get some structure back in those little darlings lives. Actually, for me I love this time of year, the fall is my favorite. I love those crisp blue sky days with all the fabulous colors. I like to take this time of year and do my "fall cleaning" and decorating, it kind of gives a fresh start to routines that have fallen by the wayside and helps me prepare for the upcoming holidays. I know Summer isn't over yet, but I think Fall is kind of easing it's way in. So with all this being said, I hope everyone can still find some time for themselves to enjoy these beautiful days and Happy Back to School.

We will be following a modified pool schedule this week, August 24 through September 4th. Pool Etiquette

Did you Know? When you are waiting for your aquatic classes to start and lap swimming is going on , the lap swimmers and water joggers have the pool up until 5 minutes before class starts. Please don't get in the pool and start warming up prior to when the class begins. By getting in the pool 15 or 20 minutes before class starts this really cuts into the lap swim times and makes it difficult for them to get their workout completed. If you need to warm up, how about getting in the hot tub for a few minutes to loosen up your muscles?? Thanks for being considerate, you're the best!!

Proatate Cancer Facts

Prostate cancer occurs when the cells of the prostate begin to grow uncontrollably. Prostate Cancer (PC) is the most common male malignancy in the Western world. In 2009, more than 192,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from the disease. Exercise May Help Lower Cholesterol in Women

We all know this ,but here's another little reinforcement factoid. This article is by Roni Caryn Rabin from the New York Times. Women who did as little as one extra hour a week of moderate physical activity — like taking a brisk walk — had lower levels of harmful cholesterol than those who exercised less, according to a nine-year study of almost 9,000 fairly sedentary middle-aged adults. The study is one of the first to find a link between exercise and significant decreases in LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol, said the lead author, Keri L. Monda, a postdoctoral fellow in epidemiology at the University of North Carolina. The study did not find the decreases in men, however. Each hour of moderate exercise or half-hour of vigorous activity was associated with a decrease of almost 4 milligrams per deciliter of LDL cholesterol in white women, and more than 10 milligrams for black women. And for women past menopause, the benefits were even greater: 5.9 milligrams for whites and 14.68 for blacks.

Prostate Cancer Screening

If you are a male 50 and older, or male 45 and older with a history of prostate cancer you should be getting screened. We have a free prostate cancer screening coming up Thursday, September 17 from 4:30 to 7:30. You must schedule an appointment. The screening includes a prostate specific antigen blood test and a digital rectal exam performed by local physicians. For more information and to schedule your exam call 751-4500.

Robyn's Weekend

Friday afternoon I journeyed up to the booming metropolis of Eureka , home of the Lincoln County High School fighting Lions. It was the big 30 year celebration for the class of 1979!! Woo Hoo! Actually, we had a really great time, just an informal gathering at the Frontier Bar in Rexford. which serves fabulous steaks, by the way. I have to say it was kind of a reality check to see all my classmates as we rapidly approach the half century mark, lots of gray hair. Yikes! A good time was had by all, onward to the next decade.

Parisi construction begins

Construction will begin this week for the Parisi Speed School coming this fall. The north and east end of the track will be closed for construction August 4th through the 18th. More details to come.
