Coaches vs Personal Trainers

OK so I have been kind of confused on this "coaching vs personal training" thing, maybe you are too?? I did a little asking of questions and checked around and lo and behold have come up with an answer...I think. Basically, what it comes down to whether you are looking for a nutritionist , dietician, personal trainer or some wellness advice you are looking for some "coaching". So the long and the short of it is that basically the terms are interchangeable. Who doesn't need a good coach now and then?

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

It has been so nice to see so many of you back that I missed all Summer. I love to hear what you've been up to, what adventures you have done, where did you go for vacation? Now it's time to get back at it, hit the treadmills, ellipticals, classes. Zumba or bellydancing anyone??

Back to School

Back to school time is right around the corner, like next week. Yikes!! The Interlake has a section on Back to School in todays edition with a lot of great information. Most of it is pretty basic commonsense information but it never hurts to have the basics reinforced. Getting the proper amount of rest is critical as is good nutrition. Make sure your children are eating their fruits and veggies, and getting all their vitamins and minerals. Good nutrition combined with proper rest help to build a good immune system and go a long way towards preventing illness. While we're at it, let's not forget the importance of exercise! It is so important to keep those little bodies moving and active. It will keep their energy levels up, their caloric intake in check and also help keep their immune system strong. Get your back to school shopping done, don't forget the healthy snacks and have a great day!

Vacation's Over

Well, here it is vacation is over, I had a wonderful relaxing week off. Did some fishing, played in my garden, visited my mom. My brother-in-law and his wife came to visit and we had a great time. Now it's back to reality.

Words of Wisdom

In the words of Mike, advice for your weekend activities. "If you are hiking, biking, jogging or whatever in bear country, make sure you have someone slower behind you." Thanks for the words of wisdom. In all seriousness, though, be careful when you are out this weekend. We have so much beautiful country around us here, so many things to do. Fishing, hiking, camping, boating, cycling, etc...the list goes on and on. Use common sense and good judgement when you are out and about this weekend. Have a great time and I will see you all again on Monday!

Tiling Fitness Stairs

So what's the latest buzz? What's with the stairs to the cardio level? What's a "flyway" and why do we need access to that? Here's the scoop. The stairs that go up from the fitness floor to the cardio mezzanine are being retiled so they will be closed for several days. To get to the cardio floor where the treadmills, elipticals, bicycles etc...are located you have to scan in at the front desk (like usual) go to the locker room (if you use it) and then come back upstairs to the front desk. Then you head towards the deli, past the deli, you are now entering the cardiac rehab zone. Cross over through cardiac rehab and you are now in the cardio mezzanine. As you go through that area please be respectful of those who may be using the equipment at the time.

Water Jogging Protocol

So, it was brought to my attention this morning that there is some confusion on the protocol for water joggers versus lap swimmers. I decided this was kind of a gray area that was unclear to me too.
What I found out was this: If there are two or more lap swimmers in a lane the water jogger needs to move to an outside lane closest to the wall. If there is an exercise class going on in part of the pool and only 1 lane available for lap swimming a water jogger may use that lane. However, if a lap swimmer wants to get in that one lap lane the water jogger should move to the other end (the deep end) and do their water jogging down there. That will allow the lap swimmer to do their thing, as well as the water joggers and those participating in the class.
