Christmas Is Almost Here
The cookies are baked, the tree is decorated and all is right with the world. Ha! Here comes the last minute scurrying around, the crazed looks on peoples faces, the house is a wreck and chaos reigns supreme! Okay, okay, let's slow down and get a little reality check. Christmas is 7 days away, you still have time to finish up all the odds and ends, and take a little time for yourself. Maybe get that workout in at the Summit to help you destress. We even have things for sale that would make great stocking stuffers...how about a new swim cap or goggles? We have great Nordic walking poles and pedometers as well for that hard to buy for person. Whatever you have left to do, don't let it stress you out or get you down, get that extra workout in, take time for a cup of tea, sit down and enjoy the quiet and look at the Christmas tree and have a great Holiday! Merry Christmas every one!!

Health Benefits of Cold Showers
Sooo...Most of you know that we are without hot water this week and it was suggested to me to find the benefits of cold showers. Thanks Darryl. I went to our information superhighway and lo and behold you can find anything on the internet, guess what I found?
Many cultures in many countries enjoy the benefits of cold showers or plunges. Some of the benefits that I found were as follows: Improves circulation, relieves depression, keeps your skin and hair healthy, strengthens your immune system, increases testosterone, and increases fertility. Now, with all that being said, further research did find that women that are menstrating should not take cold showers during that time. Also persons with heart problems are not suggested to take cold showers. I did find testimony from one person that had a quadruple bypass surgery and had been taking cold showers since his recovery and felt better than ever.
I hope all of you realize this is very tongue in cheek, but we need to find light in every situation that we can. Is your cup half full or half empty? Have a great day and make it the best it can be!!

Upcoming Repair Projects--Updated!!
Just a little update on our upcoming boiler retrofit/repair. This was originally scheduled to start August 1st, however, it has been pushed back to coincide with the annual pool closure that we do for cleaning. The retrofit will put us without hot water starting Monday, August 29 through Friday, September 2.
Now, not to confuse things, the therapy pool will close at 5:00pm on Friday, August 26. The lap pool and spa will be closed Saturday, August 27. All pools will reopen by Tuesday, September 6.
There have been a lot of grumblings about these repairs and I hope you understand that we do not do these things to make any one mad. We truly are sorry for the inconvenience this causes, but when you have a facility this large there are maintenance issues that must be dealt with. In a perfect world these could all be handled in the night time hours, the reality is that some things can not happen the way we would like them to. They can't be done at night or they can't be done in 8 hours. We really appreciate your patience and hope that when these projects are complete they will improve your Summit experience.

Water Is Important
I received a forwarded e-mail the other day that I thought I would share with you. It is some interesting facts about drinking water and how important it is to our bodies. Did you know that about 90% of heart attacks occur in the morning? It can be minimized if you drink 1 to 2 glasses of water before you retire in the evening. Two glasses of water after waking up helps activate the internal organs. One glass of water 30 minutes before a meal aids in digestion. One glass of water before taking a bath helps lower blood pressure. One glass of water before bed helps avoid strokes or heart attacks.
I thought these were some very interesting little factoids and how simple is it to drink a glass of water? So drink up! Drink your way to better health, cheers!!

International Nurses Day
Hey everybody, guess what today is?? Today is International Nurses Day! In January of 1974 it was decided that May 12 would be declared International Nurses Day, May 12 was chosen as it is the anniversary of the birthday of Florence Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing. So all you Doctors out there, and everyone that has been touched in your life by a nurse in some way or another, be sure to say "thank you" for all you do. Sometimes a nurses job is totally thankless and unnoticed whether they are a RN, LPN, or a CNA, but without them the Doctors could not do the jobs that they do. Be sure and say thank you and have a great day!!

Thought for the Day
I decided I would like to leave you with a thought for the day to get the weekend started, so here goes.
"We can not change our past.
We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way.
We can not change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude." Charles Swindoll
Do have a great weekend, stay warm, and keep smiling.
